MART VISSER ARTWORK

Although Mart Visser is primarily known for his work as a fashion designer, he has been active as an artist for decades. Intuitively, he creates sculptures and paintings, experimenting with scale and materials. Just as in his modernist fashion designs, structure, relief, texture, and technique enhance the work.

“As a viewer, you surround yourself with the silence and calm that the person or individual radiates on a canvas; you almost immerse yourself in it. In this way, I also observe a person: the contours, the wrinkles, and the planes of the face. A single change in a line can instantly alter the gaze or expression of the more than nine thousand facial features that make up the human face.

The layering of a face, or the play with shadow where the contours are only partially visible—only then does an image become interesting to me.”
