The exhibition Sculptures was on view from July 13 to August 10, 2025 at Kunsthuis Amsterdam. With his exhibition Sculptures, Mart Visser reveals a surprisingly raw and personal side of his artistry. Known as a couturier for his refined style, in this exhibition he opts for pure materials and powerful forms.
The sculptures, complemented by paintings and installations, present a profound exploration of the human face. Abstract, layered, and intriguing, Visser works intuitively, constructing his pieces from weathered wood, stone, and metal, while occasionally casting them in bronze.
Although each piece is unique and different, every work is rhythmically composed, where emotion and stillness converge. The result is both powerful and restrained. His artworks reflect the same attention to form, texture, and structure as his fashion designs, but in a rawer and freer expression.
His intuitive sculptures, in dialogue with paintings and installations, offer a layered investigation of the human face and the emotions behind it. Each work embodies Mart Visser’s signature: expressive, tangible, and intensely characterful.
In Sculptures, Mart Visser demonstrates the pure essence of form. The raw, lived-in, and imperfect materials symbolize human experience and transience. The exhibition invited visitors to reflect – a meeting point between art, emotion, and identity.
