At the beginning of 2016, Mart Visser held a successful solo exhibition in Amsterdam. In the fall, the exhibition continued in Maastricht. For five weeks, during Mart Visser: S.Y.N.E.R.G.Y, his art was displayed in combination with highlights from his Haute Couture oeuvre at the Museum at the Vrijthof.
Mart Visser: S.Y.N.E.R.G.Y featured a personal selection of Visser’s unique paintings, sculptures, and installations, combined with outstanding pieces from his Haute Couture collections of the past twenty years. His artwork ranged from smaller pieces to immense paintings measuring 2 by 3 meters, but always focused on heads. In his creative process, Visser continually experiments with different formats and materials, and the exhibition clearly demonstrated the diversity of his work. Similarly, his Haute Couture was presented in a variety of styles and formats.
Erik de Jong, director of the Museum at the Vrijthof, shared his anticipation: "Mart’s Artwork is incredibly raw and pure. His Haute Couture, on the other hand, is known for its refinement and elegance. The contrast between the two disciplines and the diversity of Mart’s work will undoubtedly create an exciting and surprising exhibition."
Mart Visser: S.Y.N.E.R.G.Y was on view from September 29 to November 6, 2016, at the Museum at the Vrijthof. A portion of the proceeds from artworks exhibited and sold was donated to the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.
